For many of us, there is a compelling need to make a difference - to leave a lasting impact on the people most dear to us and the world in which we live. The search for significance and desire to plan for the future leads many to ponder their legacy. Through the power of endowment, funds established at your local community foundation allow your family's name and charitable aspiration to live forever - creating a stable, enduring legacy to benefit future generations as you specify.
The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago ~ the second best time is now.
All of our affiliated community foundations hold at least one matching event each year. When you make a donation during that designated time frame, funds raised will be matched by another donor increasing the overall impact of the donation. Regardless of how it's matched, your Charitable Donation will go farther to benefit the organization's mission when contributed during a Match Event. For more information go to Events.
Consider sharing your bounty with your local community foundation as a Gift of Grain or any cash crop. It's easy to do and makes a huge impact to your local Foundation.
A grain of donation is not actually reported on a Schedule A as a charitable deduction. By donation grain instead of giving cash or a check, the actual value from that donated grain is not added to income on the Schedule F. Instead, the donation is recognized by lowering a farmer's taxable income, as well as lowering income subject to self-employment taxes. With income tax changes in 2018, farmers are encouraged to speak with their tax consultants on the best way to realize a true tax savings while supporting their community charitable organizations. https://assets-global.website-files.com/646b6d29fcf507dcf9a7ccdd/64dbc1902bcb94cc58772e64_Gove%20CCF%20Grain%20Donation%20Brochure.pdf
Leave a gift through your established estate plan. Approximately 50% of the adult population does not have a will or trust. If you or your family member's life ended today-without warning, would you be prepared?
If you haven't taken the steps, the reality is that you won't have a say in how your estate will be handled. Without the proper documents, upon your death the state of Kansas gets to decide who gets what. This automatic state plan rarely matches your own preferences and additionally the probate process can be lengthy and very costly. You should have control over the final disposition of your property. Every adult individual or married couple needs an estate plan, regardless of how much they own. A plan gives you the opportunity to make very important decisions regarding how your assets are distributed tax efficiently, including your charitable legacy.
Here's why monthly contributions can be a game-changer:
1️⃣Consistent Support: Monthly donations provide a steady stream of support that helps the foundation plan and execute their projects more effectively.
2️⃣Affordable Giving: Smaller monthly donations are often more budget-friendly, making it easier for everyone to participate in supporting the causes we care about.
3️⃣Bigger Impact: Over time, your monthly contributions can add up to a more substantial contribution, allowing us to accomplish even more together.
4️⃣Sustainability: By committing to monthly donations, we demonstrate our long-term commitment to the foundation's mission and sustainability

Gove County Community Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and empowering our community through various programs and initiatives. Our mission is to make a positive impact and create a better future for all.
You can designate a gift or portion of your estate to your community foundation and, in some cases, receive a substantial reduction in federal gift and estate taxes.
You can designate IRA distributions to the community foundation during your lifetime or through an estate gift. This can be treated as either a tax-deductible gift given by the donor directly (qualifying amounts are determined according to your personal tax bracket), or as a Qualified Charitable Distribution (you instruct the IRA custodian to transfer dollars directly to the foundation). A fund can be established with the community foundation to direct gifts to carry out your wishes (Donor-Advised Funds are exempt per IRS for Qualified Charitable Deductions but can be carried out by other types of funds).
You can designate your local community foundation as the beneficiary of your life insurance policy, and either establish a fund in advance to help the foundation direct your gifts according to your wishes or leave as an unrestricted gift to the foundation to use as needed. You can make your local community foundation the owner of a life insurance policy of a currently paid-up policy or continue to pay premiums where you claim continuing tax deductions on said policy.
You can place cash or property in a trust that pays annual income to you (or another named beneficiary) for life. After your death, the remainder of the trust transfers to your community foundation and is placed into a charitable fund you have selected. You receive income tax benefits the year you establish your trust.
You can place cash or property into a trust that pays a fixed amount to your community foundation for the number of years you select. Once this period ends, the assets held by the trust are transferred to the beneficiaries you name. In some cases, you receive a substantial reduction in federal gift and estate.
Each individual, Family, or organization we work with has unique financial circumstances. We help you make the most of both, so you receive the greatest return on your community investment.
You can have ongoing involvement in the use of your gift. You work with our professional program staff, identifying ways to use dollars from the Donor Advised Fund you establish to address the issue and needs you care about most. Your recommendations are submitted to our local board for approval; we then distribute grant dollars.
Your gift can address ever - changing community needs - including future needs that often cannot be anticipated at the time your gift is made. We evaluate all aspects of community well-being - arts and culture, economic development, education, environment, health and human services, neighborhood revitalization, and more.
You can target your gift to address needs in an important area of community life. Arts, Food Bank, Youth Activities, Healthcare, you identify your personal interest area when making your gift; our board awards grants to community organizations and programs that are making a difference in the area you select.
You can invest your gift in our community's future and show students you care, all with the guidance and personal services of your community foundation. You determine the criteria students must meet to receive the Scholarship you establish. With your assistance, students achieve their academics and career-oriented goals - from preschool to postgraduate work.
You can direct your gift to a specific nonprofit organization or purpose. Help provide ongoing funding for a senior center, museum, or virtually any nonprofit charitable organization. Nonprofit organizations can use a Designated Fund through the community foundation to help build their own endowment and enhance their ability to accept large and complex gifts.
A fund specific to a named community foundation or charitable organization.
Any of these funds can be established in your name, or in the name of your family, your organization, or anyone you wish to honor. All grants distributed from the fund you establish - are then awarded to charities in the name of that fund. It's a great way to always be involved with, and remembered for your community investment.
When we think about giving back to the causes we care about, our minds often go to the immediate and tangible ways we can make a difference - writing a check, volunteering our time, or participating in fundraisers. While these forms of giving are undeniably important and great appreciated, there is another avenue of philanthropy that can leave a lasting legacy of impact: planned giving
Planned giving, also know as legacy giving or gift planning, is the process of intentionally including charitable donations in your estate plans. By designating a portion of your assets or estate to charitable organization or cause you believe in, you can extend your support beyond your lifetime, leaving a profound and enduring impact on the world.
Create a meaningful Legacy: Planned giving allows you to create a legacy that reflects your values and passions. It's a way to ensure that the causes you hold dear continue to thrive long after you're gone. Your generosity can inspire others to follow in your footsteps, creating a chain of giving that perpetuates positive change.
Support Causes Close to Your Heart: Whether you are passionate about education, healthcare, environmental conversation, social justice, or any other cause, planned giving provides you with the means to continue supporting those causes even when you're no longer able to actively contribute.
Financial and Tax Benefits: Planned giving can provide valuable financial and tax benefits to you and your family. Depending on the giving option you choose, you may receive tax deductions, reduce estate taxes, or generate income for yourself or your loved ones.
Flexibility and Control: Planned giving offers a wide range of options, from bequests in your will to charitable trusts, gift annuities, and more. This flexibility allows you to tailor your giving strategy to align with your financial goals and circumstances
Bequests: A bequest is a gift made through your will or living trust, allowing you to donated a specific amount or a percentage of your estate to the charity of your choice.
Charitable Trusts: Charitable remainder trusts and charitable lead trusts are valuable tools that allow you to support a charity while also providing for your loved ones or heirs.
Life Insurance Beneficiary Designations: Naming a charity as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy is a simple yet impactful way to support the causes you care about.
Identify Your Values: Start by reflecting on the causes and organizations that hold a special place in your heart. Consider the impact you want to make and the values you wish to uphold through your philanthropy.
Consult Professionals: THAT'S WHERE WE CAN HELP YOU! Through our partnership with the Greater Northwest Kansas Community Foundation we are able to connect with John Griffin of Stewardship Counseling, LLC to provide estate planning design services FREE OF CHARGE!
Engage with Your Chosen Charity: Reach out to the organization you wish to support and inquire about their planned giving program. They will have resources and expertise to help you navigate the process and answer any questions you may have.
Spread the Word: Encourage your friends, family and fellow supporters of the organization to consider planned giving as well. By raising awareness about this form of philanthropy, you can help create a culture of giving that extends beyond the present.

Donations made to an Endowment fund are intended to be given to perpetuity.
The principal funds are held in perpetuity and a small portion of the income on that principal, about 4 to 5 percent per year, are donated per the guidelines of the established fund. Endowment investments have dual goals: to grow the principal and to generate income.
When you give to an Endowment fund you are giving to future generation!
Donations made to a Non-Endowment fund may be granted to anytime per the guidelines of the established fund.
Not to add confusion to the mix, there is also a Quasi-Endowment fund which in essence is still an endowment with some prevision that principal may be accessed at the organization's discretion when there are extenuating circumstances.
Regardless of endowment status, all funds are still subject to donor restrictions or intents per establishing documents.
